Napa River Ranch sits along the eastern edge of the valley floor just north of the town of Napa. Straddling the Oak Knoll and Yountville subappellations, this location is known for a climate cooled by the breezes and maritime fog of San Pablo Bay. Moderate temperatures allow slow, steady ripening and a later harvest than most valley floor locations, resulting in an excellent balance of sugar and acid.
Hopper Creek, Dry Creek, and the Napa River converge on this 223 acre property, making it ideal for dry farming practices. Little or no irrigation forces our vines to develop deep into the land’s clay, loam, and river gravel soil. The resulting red fruit is exuberant and ripe, rich in texture and expressing Oak Knoll’s signature firm structure.
In addition to its beauty and distinctive terroir, Napa River Ranch plays a vital role in the overall health of the Dry Creek Watershed. As part of our efforts to achieve optimal health of the vineyard’s ecosystem, HALL removed an impeding fish barrier to reinvigorate the Steelhead Trout population, opening sixteen miles of headwaters habitat. This Fish Friendly Farming benefits the fluvial plants and animals well beyond our valley.
