This contest is now closed. Thanks to all of our participants! We are happy to announce the winners of the 2008 Out of State Out of Mind Contest!

Grand Prize Winners

Mark Rubinstein: NYC, NY 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
"On a sultry summer night, good friends come together to share canapés and a bottle of 2005 HALL Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Swirling the medium-bodied Cab in crystal stemware, they take in its woodsy fragrance. The air crackles with their laughter as they savor the sensual silkiness of the wine. As the last drops of the deep, ruby red wine are poured into glasses, the group toasts to good food, best friends, and great wine. Currant and cherry flavors linger on their tongues long after the seductive liquid is gone."

Patrick Murzyn: Elgin, IL – 2007 T Bar T Sauvignon Blanc
"Liquid sunshine in a glass, HALL's 2007 T Bar T Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc embodies all the best qualities of sitting out on your deck on a summer day. Aromas of tropical fruit and fresh-mown grass awaken your senses; a light entry of citrus fruit is followed by a zippy acidity dancing on the tip of your tongue. Perfect for sipping by itself while you fire up your grill, it will also pair wonderfully with summer salads, seafood or grilled chicken."

Christine Schmidt: Keller, TX- 2005 Napa Valley Merlot
"HALL Napa Valley Merlot 2005 presents itself on the palate as a sublimely dry cloudburst. This wine is as masculine and arid as licking the page of a Hemingway novel. At first. Then the aftertaste presents a sumptuous surprise. The grape reveals its sweetness in a five-count past the first toast. It would be right at home shattered across the prow of a manly schooner, but would shine at the opening night of your next art gala. The guests will admire this wine's robust class and indulgent finish. HALL Napa Valley Merlot 2005 is a power lunch that concludes with your promotion."

Robert Stout: Congers, NY - 2005 Napa River Ranch Merlot
"Gently swirling the glass reveals rich tributaries clinging to the crystal, pooling into a dark southerly basin. A calm river of fresh fruit swells within the mouth, opposed by a gentle eddy of spiciness. The velvety current flows effortlessly, receding long after the first sip."

Runner-up Prize Winners

Joe Dingwerth: Kansas City, MO – 2005 Lieff Cabernet Sauvignon
"It was a hot Tuesday.
We were working out of the new Moebus Tower.
My partner's Michelle O’Michael.
My name's Friday – Joe Friday.
It was a long night.
She took out a bottle.
She said “It’s a Hall cabernet. A new one. Lieff Auberge.”
I said “It’s hot out. Why red?” She ignored the question.
She began groaning and muttering the words “tea”, “toast with jam”, “spice”. She seemed to be in a state of nirvana.
She was on duty.
The judge gave her 5-7 years.
She said that should be the perfect time, and smiled.
These are the facts.""

Fred Xureb: Scottsdale, AZ – 2007 T Bar T Sauvignon Blanc
"It's Arizona. It's a hot night. The mind races. You think about your corkscrew--the only friend who hasn't betrayed you, the only friend who hasn't abandoned you for the summer. Drink up, mates, the refreshing HALL T BAR T Ranch Sauvignon Blanc 2007. With its subtle hints of fresh citrus and oak and its not so subtle "HEY...I'm your only hope for surviving another summer in this inferno" crisp, clean finish, it’s the oasis in your concrete desert, the Phoenix rising from the ashes and your recompense for enduring another 110 degree day."

Mindy Richards: Denver, CO – 2005 NV Merlot
"When first opened, the aromas of eucalyptus, blackberry and boysenberry takes me to a roadside stand where pint baskets of fruit in the summer await purchase, hands stained with the purple juice. The first sip is fresh blackberries, before the butter, sugar and lemon are added to bake Grandma's pie. Later, the berries burst in my mouth and I get a hint of antique pink roses. This is what summer should be."

C.M. Davis: Austin, TX – 2005 Jacks Masterpiece
"Loosely inspired by the theme to The Beverly Hillbillies...Come 'n listen to my story 'bout a man named Paul. A happy Texan just looking for some red, And then one day, he was sippin' Rutherford, And up to the nose come a oaky, blackberry, Jack's masterpiece that is, red gold, Nappa tea, Well, the first thing you know, ol' Paul's a connoisseur, Kin folk said, Paul, join a wine club there, Said, Californy is the place you oughta be, So they loaded up the card with wines from Hall. Hall Winery that is, winemakers, artisans."
