How Should I Decant an Aged Wine?

Other tips:
  • Decanting an aged wine is mainly for removing the sediment.
  • Stand the bottle upright the day before decanting to allow the sediment to settle.
  • Pour a slow steady stream into the vessel.
  • Make sure the bottle opening does not go beyond a 60 degree angle while decanting.
  • Check for sediment when you are 80% done. Use a light source under the neck of the bottle to control your wine flow and sediment content.
  • Aged wines are delicate. Do not leave them out for too long, the aromas may dissipate!
