Hidden in the northeast Mayacamas Mountains of Napa Valley, the inimitable Diamond Mountain appellation has scarce plantings in light fractured volcanic soils. With a mere 500 acres of vineyard plantings, access to this esteemed fruit is quite rare. We are among a fortunate few able to create such distinctive wine from this revered appellation.
The 2007 HALL “Diamond Mountain District” Cabernet Sauvignon embodies its terroir in athletic, elaborate expression. The nose explodes with savory roasted herbs, mocha and a medley of mountain berries, while flavors of ultra-ripe black plum, orange pekoe tea, dark chocolate ganache, and dusty lavender persist. The mouthfeel is, at once, sweet, lush and concentrated, reflecting the wine’s origins. Soft, silky tannins invite early enjoyment, but the wine will continue to impress for 10-15 years.
