2013 HALL Eighteen Seventy-Three Cabernet Sauvignon
"Ultrarich, layered and tightly focused on a dense core of meaty blackberry, currant, loamy earth, anise, crushed rock and graphite notes. For all the flavor and depth, this features a persistent finish that folds in smoky, toasty oak, adding an extra dimension of texture, flavor and aroma. Drink now through 2028." - James Laube
95 Points - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
The 2013 Eighteen Seventy-Three Cabernet Sauvignon has a dark garnet color, masculine in character with brooding aromas of sweet tobacco, anise, black currant, clove and cedar. Flavors of dark cherry, black olive and juniper berry, combine with dense, structured tannins to power this earth-driven wine through the finish.
IN 1873, CAPTAIN WILLIAM PETERSON came to Napa and established a pioneering winery on our St. Helena property. Throughout the 1930’s and 40’s, the site grew to become Napa’s most important winery, producing nearly 40% of its entire vintage. The fruit for our “Eighteen Seventy-Three” hails from the rugged mountain slopes that frame Napa Valley. Power and individuality underscore this wine, a deliberate intent to commemorate the trailblazing spirit of Napa’s first vintners.
|Varietal Composition||100% Cabernet Sauvignon|
|Barrel Aging||22 Months in 75% New French Oak|
|Vintage Notes||Temperatures were moderate and slightly cooler in 2013, providing the opportunity to again harvest according to our winemaker’s preference and not due to weather conditions. The 2013 vintage wines are extremely concentrated in their textural richness. They showcase massive personalities and should be extremely long lived.|
