Critic Review
"Ultrarich, layered and tightly focused on a dense core of meaty blackberry, currant, loamy earth, anise, crushed rock and graphite notes. For all the flavor and depth, this features a persistent finish that folds in smoky, toasty oak, adding an extra dimension of texture, flavor and aroma..."
95 Points | Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
"As for the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon 1873, this is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon generally from eastern Napa Valley hillside vineyards. Multi-dimensional, with tremendous concentration and richness, this wine has a dense purple color, unctuously thick, juicy, yet well-balanced crème de cassis, blackberry and blueberry flavors, a floral component, and a long, powerful finish..."
93 Points | Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast
"Made from fruit grown in the eastern reaches of the Vaca Mountains, a warm place for grapes, this 100% varietal wine delivers a voluptuously smooth experience, shining in baked cherry and plum. Amid its biting tension of ripeness awaits a swath of dark chocolate and tobacco."
2013 HALL Eighteen Seventy-Three Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2013 Eighteen Seventy-Three Cabernet Sauvignon has a dark garnet color, masculine in character with brooding aromas of sweet tobacco, anise, black currant, clove and cedar. Flavors of dark cherry, black olive and juniper berry, combine with dense, structured tannins to power this earth-driven wine through the finish.

IN 1873, CAPTAIN WILLIAM PETERSON came to Napa and established a pioneering winery on our St. Helena property. Throughout the 1930’s and 40’s, the site grew to become Napa’s most important winery, producing nearly 40% of its entire vintage. The fruit for our “Eighteen Seventy-Three” hails from the rugged mountain slopes that frame Napa Valley. Power and individuality underscore this wine, a deliberate intent to commemorate the trailblazing spirit of Napa’s first vintners.

| Vintage Notes | Temperatures were moderate and slightly cooler in 2013, providing the opportunity to again harvest according to our winemaker’s preference and not due to weather conditions. The 2013 vintage wines are extremely concentrated in their textural richness. They showcase massive personalities and should be extremely long lived. |
