"The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is another killer effort, with mulberry, graphite and blackberry fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel, wonderfully sweet, lush tannin, and no hint of any oak whatsoever..."
Deep garnet color in color, our 2015 Howell Mountain has effusive aromas of freshly cracked pepper, Darjeeling tea, blackberry compote, and dried lavender. This Cabernet Sauvignon is dense and concentrated on the palate with powerful yet supple tannin. It features flavors of dark berry, cardamom, tobacco, and wet stone which lead into a long and flavorful finish supported by warm and spicy oak notes.
Perched 1400 feet above the valley floor, Howell Mountain is well above the fog line. This natural inversion layer assures the vineyards are drenched in sunlight from daybreak to sunset. Cooler spring temperatures cause buds to break later than average, and warm summer nights produce fruit of opulence and density. With rocky, infertile volcanic soils, the water is freely drained and the vines struggle and are low in vigor, producing intense wines from small clusters and berries.
|Varietal Composition||100% Cabernet Sauvignon|
|Barrel Aging||26 Months in 80% New French Oak|
|Vintage Notes||An unseasonably warm spring brought early bloom and bud break. Temperatures cooled in May causing grape shatter, which resulted in uneven fruit set and reduced an already low crop yield. In reaction, vineyard crews worked even more diligently during verasion thinning to maintain even ripening of the clusters. As a result of the growing conditions, attention to detail in the vineyards, plus a final pass through optical sorting equipment at the winery makes the quality of the vintage extremely high.|
