2015 HALL Jack's Masterpiece Cabernet Sauvignon
"...the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Jack's Masterpiece is another brilliant wine, with more charcoal, burning embers, an almost Graves-like characteristic, a dense purple color, rich creme de cassis and blackberry fruit, a full-bodied, multi-dimensional mouthfeel, and a long, long finish. This should turn out to be a prodigious effort from Hall, capable of being drunk young, but for those with some patience, also cellared for three decades or more.
Complex aromas of burning embers, earthy dust, and black cassis intertwine with a slight citrus note of bergamot. The palate is powerful, concentrated and opulent, reflecting flavors of graphite, and baking spice with an intense and lengthy finish.
Our Jack’s Masterpiece comes from many vineyard sources and appellations, but tends to be dominated by mountain fruit. Vineyards planted in mountain terrains produce vines smaller in stature but with more concentrated grapes. These grapes provide the basis for the dense, powerful structure of this wine. Our goal is to capture the flavors of dark black fruit mixed with powerful, chewy tannins, and a focused palate.
|Varietal Composition||98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc|
|Barrel Aging||Aged 22 Months in 75% New French Oak|
|Vintage Notes||An unseasonably warm spring brought early bloom and bud break. Temperatures cooled in May causing grape shatter, which resulted in uneven fruit set and reduced an already low crop yield. In reaction, vineyard crews worked even more diligently during verasion thinning to maintain even ripening of the clusters. As a result of the growing conditions, attention to detail in the vineyards, plus a final pass through optical sorting equipment at the winery makes the quality of the vintage extremely high.|
