2016 HALL Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
"More blue fruits, charcoal, scorched earth, and forest floor notes emerge from the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, and it stays tight, backward, and structured on the palate, with plenty of tannins, beautiful purity, and good acidity. This is a magical, ageworthy mountain Cabernet that's going to benefit from a solid 4-6 years of bottle age."
94 Points | Wine Advocate, Lisa Perotti-Brown "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a little broody to begin and then, with coaxing, offers glimpses at fertile loam, fungi and charcoal notes over a core of blackcurrant pastilles, mulberries and ripe plum plus a waft of stewed tea. Full-bodied, the palate is packed with earth and mineral accents, framed by firm, sturdy tannins and compelling freshness, finishing on a lingering minerally note."
Deep ruby in color, our 2016 Howell Mountain has great intensity on the nose with ripe notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, dried lavender, sweet oak and graphite. Expressive and ripe on the palate, this wine is loaded with dark berry, vanilla and sweet spice. The finish is layered and refreshing supported by ripe tannins.
Perched 1400 feet above the valley floor, Howell Mountain is well above the fog line. This natural inversion layer assures the vineyards are drenched in sunlight from daybreak to sunset. Cooler spring temperatures cause buds to break later than average, and warm summer nights produce fruit of opulence and density. With rocky, infertile volcanic soils, the water is freely drained and the vines struggle and are low in vigor, producing intense wines from small clusters and berries.

|Vintage Notes||The 2016 vintage marked the end of the drought years, although precipitation levels were still moderate to low. Near-perfect growing conditions continued throughout the summer with a few heat spikes that the valley is known for. Yields were a bit lower than normal, but the quality of the harvest was high. The resulting wine is rich and lush, with supple tannins and opulent, elegant finishes. Wines from 2016 are a fifth consecutive vintage of stellar Napa Valley wines.|
