2016 HALL Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
Critic Review
"The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder is pure class and shows the wild, mountain terroir of this appellation beautifully. Blue fruits, sage brush, wet stone-like minerality, and hints of dark chocolate all emerge from the glass, and it's rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, with a backward vibe that's going to reward bottle age."
95 Points | Wine Advocate, Lisa Perotti-Brown
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder comes bounding out of the glass with gregarious notes of baked plums, blueberry preserves and blackcurrant cordial plus hints of mocha, tapenade, cinnamon stick and gingerbread. Full-bodied, concentrated and oh-so-spicy in the mouth, it has a firm texture of grainy tannins and background freshness, finishing on a lingering cinnamon toast note."

Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon has an earthy character that is revealed as it opens with aromas of thyme, sage, ultra ripe blackcurrant, and crushed blackberry. The viscocity and density on the palate gives a concentrated and powerful expression that resolves in an opulent finish with a hint of minerality.

Created by uplift from seismic activity and movement of tectonic plates some 12 million years ago, Mount Veeder is derived from ancient sea beds. These sedimentary soils are infused with the decayed remnants of the forests native to the area, which leads to a distinctively dark berry and exotic, wild mountain character. Because of the rugged, steep terrain of this mountain appellation, the yields are inherently miniscule, with tiny berries bursting with concentrated and densely tannic structures.

Vintage Notes | The 2016 vintage marked the end of the drought years, although precipitation levels were still moderate to low. Near-perfect growing conditions continued throughout the summer with a few heat spikes that the valley is known for. Yields were a bit lower than normal, but the quality of the harvest was high. The resulting wine is rich and lush, with supple tannins and opulent, elegant finishes. Wines from 2016 are a fifth consecutive vintage of stellar Napa Valley wines. |
