2016 WALT Clos Pepe Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
"From a great site on the southern side of the Sta. Rita Hills, the 2016 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe has a great perfume of sweet red fruits, toasted spices, menthol, and candied orange peel. Complex, medium to full-bodied, and concentrated, yet always with a sense of elegance, drink it any time over the coming decade."

"Powerfully structured, with concentrated dark plum, mulled cherry and dried berry flavors that are supported by firm acidity and fresh tannins. Cedar and spice notes show on the finish..."
Dark garnet in color, the 2016 Clos Pepe has bright cherry aromas, with a hint of darker berry fruit. There is well integrated oak - just subtly spicy and warm, but not overwhelming the vineyard character. The palate opens up beautifully and is full and lush with bright minerality on the finish - a distinguishing characteristic of the Clos Pepe site.
The iconic Clos Pepe vineyard is situated in a cool enclave within the Sta. Rita Hills. The prevailing winds coming from the Pacific slow the ripening of these vines, allowing for saturated flavors to accumulate throughout the decidedly long growing season.

|Vintage Notes||The 2016 harvest was early, with slightly lower than normal yield, but exceptional fruit quality. After many years of drought, we experienced winter rains that helped alleviate the dry conditions that plagued us for the last four years. The entire ripening season enjoyed cooler than average days and nights. July and August were particularly temperate allowing for longer hang times, which ripened the grapes uniformly.|
