2018 HALL Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon
Critic Review
"...the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain District boasts a deep purple hue as well as ripe, powerful notes of black and blue fruits, crushed stone, graphite, and lead pencil. It's ripe and concentrated, yet also has a touch of austerity, which is both the vintage and the appellation. Full-bodied and structured, I like the quality of the tannins, and it has plenty of mid-palate depth as well as a great finish."

"Packed with cassis and plum and blackberry compote flavors, this seemingly ready to burst with fruit, though it's all harnessed nicely with sleek graphite and mulling spice notes that add definition and length while the finish cruises through, supported by warm earth and roasted alder. A big wine with admirable purity to its hefty fruit core."

"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain District is fabulous. It presents all of the richness that is typical of these wines, but with an added element of lift that works so well in lending brightness as well as energy. Red plum, iron, chalk, white pepper and dried herbs fill out the layers effortlessly, while bright, salivating acids refresh the palate."

Deep purple hue, this wine has inviting aromas of blackberry, star anise, leather, and dusty cocoa. The palate opens with a perfectly balanced acidity that plays off of the abundant dark fruit flavors. Hints of exotic spice, earth, black pepper, and a mineral note accompany the fruit flavors beautifully. Full-bodied, rich, and lengthy - displaying abundant tannin and pleasant grip on the finish, this is a wine built for aging.

Nestled in the northwestern hillsides of Napa Valley, the Diamond Mountain District is sparsely planted, with fewer than 550 acres under vine. This warm hillside appellation is perfect for ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, the prevalent variety of the area. With porous, volcanic-derived soils, the vines produce distinctively earthy, chocolate-laced flavors, wrapped around rich, opulent tannins.

Vintage Notes | This near perfect growing season began in late February. Our Spring weather was mild, and allowed for extended flowering that produced very uniform grape clusters. Temperatures throughout Napa remained steady and warm during the majority of summer and fall, without any heat spikes, making for a long and unhurried harvest. The resulting wines are incredibly smooth and polished, with magnificent texture and color. |
