2019 HALL Eighteen Seventy-Three Cabernet Sauvignon
Critic Review
"...Sporting a deep purple hue as well as layered, slightly reserved bouquet of red and black fruits, tobacco, cedary pencil, and chocolaty oak, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, concentrated mid-palate, and a great finish. It tastes like it cost two to three times its going rate. Drink bottles any time over the coming decade."
95 Points | Owen Bargreen The beautiful 2019 HALL ‘Eighteen Seventy-Three’ comes form the northeastern hillsides of the Napa Valley. The nose shows beautiful dark florals with pipe tobacco, dark currant jelly, blackberry pie and espresso grounds. The palate is beautifully balanced, with bright acidity and velvety tannins that combine with the ripe core of dark fruits."
Dark garnet in color. Opens with powerful aromas of ripe blackberry, wet stone, and intense, yet integrated oak. The palate is loaded with Sacrashe driven tannin, and concentrated blackberry notes. Spicy oak notes of nutmeg, cocoa nib, and clove add another layer of complexity. The finish is lengthy and full of dark, balanced, and dense tannin. Another great vintage of 1873!

IN 1873, CAPTAIN WILLIAM PETERSON came to Napa and established a pioneering winery on our St. Helena property. Throughout the 1930’s and 40’s, the site grew to become Napa’s most important winery, producing nearly 40% of its entire vintage. The fruit for our “Eighteen Seventy-Three” hails from the rugged mountain slopes that frame Napa Valley. Power and individuality underscore this wine, a deliberate intent to commemorate the trailblazing spirit of Napa’s first vintners.

Vintage Notes | Our 2019 growing began with ample rainfall and lingering soil moisture. A warm, extended summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season helped to preserve freshness and balance in the fruit with hang time that allowed for impressive color, structure and tannin. This is an exceptional vintage defined by well integrated acidity, dense texture, and great depth. |
