2019 HALL Exzellenz Cabernet Sauvignon
Critic Review
"...the 2019 HALL ‘Excellenz’ Cabernet Sauvignon reveals tar and scorched earth with sweet pipe tobacco and creme de violette notes. The palate is massive, dense and tannic, with hedonistic dark and blue fruits, with Turkish coffee, Nutella and pencil lead accents. Sensational to consume now, this beauty is just coming into its own and will surely live on for another twenty years to come."
97 Points | The Wine Independent, Lisa Perrotti-Brown Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Exzellenz races out with energetic notes of crushed red and black currants, fresh blackberries, and kirsch, plus wafts of unsmoked cigars, tar, and beef dripping. The full-bodied palate delivers layer upon layer of black fruits and earthy accents, framed by velvety tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing with epic length.
97 Points | Jeb Dunnuck "...Incredibly aromatic with notes of bloody black and blue fruits, iron, leather, and tobacco, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a round, lush, pleasure-bent mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a great, great finish. I followed this bottle for multiple days, and it never failed to impress. "

"...the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Exzellenz—named for Kathryn's ambassadorship to Austria (1997 – 2001)—shows more floral notes than many of the other Hall Cabernets, bringing an intriguing complexity to the purple raspberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, this wine is firmly built but silky, with a long, mouthwatering finish."
Dense garnet in color, with lifted aromas of black currant, graphite, freshly turned earth, and warm spice notes. The 2019 Exzellenz exhibits beautiful tension, opulence and an incredible aging potential that is characteristic of our Sacrashe estate. A core of chocolate laced tannins lead into an exceptionally lengthy finish.

The goal here is dark black fruit, power, chewy tannin, and a focused palate. Our Sacrashe Estate vineyard is hidden atop the eastern ridge of the Vaca Mountain Range in Rutherford. With extremely limiting volcanic tuff soils and gentle sloping aspects, this vineyard yields fruit that is always rich, dense, earthy, and opulent - it possesses a purity of focus and dense tannic structure.

Vintage Notes | Our 2019 growing began with ample rainfall and lingering soil moisture. A warm, extended summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season helped to preserve freshness and balance in the fruit with hang time that allowed for impressive color, structure and tannin. This is an exceptional vintage defined by well integrated acidity, dense texture, and great depth. |
