2020 HALL Jack's Masterpiece Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2020 Jack's Masterpiece opens with dark cassis notes, pencil shavings and a floral element of violets, underscored by spicy well-integrated French oak. The palate is intense and full-bodied with flavors of dark ripe cherry, coca nib, wet stone and a hint of dried sage. Powerful and well-structured tannin on the finish will age beautifully over the next 15+ years.

Jack’s is blended at the same time as Kathryn Hall, with different components being selected for the stylistic goal of the wine. Our Jack’s Masterpiece will typically come from many vineyard sources and appellations, but tends to be dominated by hillside fruit. The goal here is dark black fruit, power, chewy tannin, and a focused palate. The blend can be described as having blue and black fruits on the nose – blackberry, and black cherry with hints of wet stone or pencil lead. The palate is dark and brooding with dense tannin and structure.

Vintage Notes | The winter of 2020 was warm and dry, setting off bud break and the growing season slightly earlier than usual throughout Napa Valley. It wasn't until the end of March that cold, rainy weather arrived, and the mild spring gave the vines a strong, early start. Moderately warm days held through the summer and early fall, allowing the fruit to ripen slowly and develop complex flavor and tannin balance, while maintaining fresh acidity. This vintage produced great wines that are concentrated, focused, and beautifully balanced. |
