2022 HALL Eighteen Seventy-Three Cabernet Sauvignon
Critic Review
"...this wine opens with tar, anise and black currants that mingle well with espresso grounds and wet stone. Refined and elegant with a seamless sense of mid-palate depth and richness, enjoy this fantastic Cabernet Sauvignon now and over the next fifteen years."

"...named for the year Captain William Patterson first established his winery on what is now the Halls' St. Helena home estate. It offers up an exciting mélange of blackberry, grilled herbs, sage, lavender and chocolate, all framed by a kiss of French oak."
2022 HALL Eighteen Seventy-Three Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2022 vintage of 1873 is brooding in character with dark aromas of tobacco, anise, black currant, and cedar. On the palate, flavors of ripe cherry, black olive and subois combine with dense, mouth-coating tannins for a long, extracted, earth-driven finish.

IN 1873, CAPTAIN WILLIAM PETERSON came to Napa and established a pioneering winery on our St. Helena property. Throughout the 1930’s and 40’s, the site grew to become Napa’s most important winery, producing nearly 40% of its entire vintage. The fruit for our “Eighteen Seventy-Three” hails from the rugged mountain slopes that frame Napa Valley. Power and individuality underscore this wine, a deliberate intent to commemorate the trailblazing spirit of Napa’s first vintners.

| Vintage Notes | Ample winter rain, followed by temperate and dry conditions through March gave us a good start to the vintage. The spring and summer months were consistent and warm, resulting in small but healthy canopies and balanced vines. Labor Day came with a curveball from Mother Nature in the form of a prolonged heat wave that accelerated harvest at many of our vineyard sites, followed immediately by much cooler weather and a bit of rain. This refreshing slow-down allowed the remaining grapes to hang a bit longer, yielding beautifully balanced fruit and polished tannin. Overall the 2022 vintage is fresh with pure, concentrated flavors. |
