Napa Valley's renowned Diamond Mountain District is a source of premium Cabernet Sauvignon. Nestled amidst the Mayacamas Mountains in the northwestern corner of Napa Valley. Its name is derived from the abundant deposits of obsidian and volcanic glass in the soils. Diamond Mountain’s soils are volcanic and porous, predominantly reddish in nature, with significant rock content.
The appellation was first planted to grapes in 1862 by pioneering vintner Jacob Schram. Today, due to Diamond Mountain’s rugged terrain, only 500 acres of vineyard are planted. Surrounding the vineyards are dense forests of redwood, conifers, and madrones. This mountainous appellation spans an elevation of 400 to 2200 feet above Calistoga at Napa Valley’s northern end.
The opulence displayed by Cabernet Sauvignon from the Diamond Mountain District of Napa Valley is both unique and distinctive. Due to slightly warmer temperatures in this locale, the wines possess lower acidity but retain a rich tannic structure reminiscent of dark chocolate and cocoa. Aromas primarily encompass blueberry, spice, and crème de cassis with hints of coffee and earth. This combination of robust mountain structure and a soft, generous texture yields wines that are approachable in their youth yet equipped with the tannic backbone for long-term aging.
Few have managed to honor the diverse essence of Napa Valley with such unique expressions. HALL’s Cabernet Sauvignon collection exemplifies the deep bond each wine has with the land, the climate, and the passionate individuals who bring these wines to life.
