JEB DUNNUCK, Audrey Frick
"Coming from Walt’s estate vineyard, the 2020 Chardonnay Bob's Ranch was aged for 15 months in 30% new French oak barrels. It gives up soft aromas of fresh peaches, crème brûlée, and orange blossom. The palate has a bit more concentration and a soft coating mouthfeel, with orange oil, vanilla bean spice, and hazelnut."

The wine opens with a dominant flinty aroma, layered with complex notes of orchard fruit, lightly toasted grain, and lime zest. The palate brings a big, weighty texture and the understated fruit is balanced with vivid acidity. This wine will continue to develop and delight with age over time.

Bob’s Ranch Vineyard is characterized by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Coastal breezes along with low rolling hills and morning fog define this cool climate. This marine layer keeps the vineyard 15 degrees cooler than the rest of the Russian River. The terroir is mostly fine sandy loam soil that gives excellent drainage and leads to low vigor vines and small yields.

Vintage Notes | The season started out with an unseasonably warm, dry winter. It wasn't until the end of March that cold, rainy weather arrived, and the mild spring gave the vines a strong, early start. Even with above normal temperatures throughout the summer and fall, we still experienced the marine influence that defines the limiting conditions of our premium Chardonnay sites - cool morning fog and afternoon wind. This vintage produced great wines that are fresh, focused, and beautifully balanced. |
