"Sleek and elegant, deep and refined, with a tight focus to the core of blackberry, wild berry, anise and cedar flavors, gliding effortlessly on the finish..."

Deep garnet in color, this wine has an emanating bouquet of brambly raspberries and African violets layered with barrel notes of caramel and toffee. Rich black plum and black cherry are at the forefront of the palate, while an underlying minerality of pencil lead complements the bold, firm texture and full body.

In creating this blend, we realized the great potential of our vineyard sourcing within St. Helena. Unique for its gravelly, low vigor soils and a cooling influence of Pacific breezes from the north, the fruit from this region produces a stylistically lush, aromatic wine with a dense core of dark briary fruit.

Vintage NotesAn unseasonably warm spring brought early bloom and bud break. Temperatures cooled in May causing grape shatter, which resulted in uneven fruit set and further reduced an already low crop yield. As a consequence, vineyard crews worked even more diligently during verasion thinning the clusters to maintain even ripening. The growing conditions, attention to detail in the vineyards, plus a final pass through optical sorting equipment at the winery make the quality of the vintage extremely high.
