"...the 2021 HALL ‘Jack’s Masterpiece’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a proprietary barrel selection wine made by the winemaking team. Very inky in the glass, this offers black rose petals notes on the nose with pencil lead, Asian spices, Turkish coffee and shades of black licorice. The palate is velvety and soft with serious concentration and great underlying finesse. Finishing very long, this will easily be a 20 year wine."

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Jack's Masterpiece is also a blend of sites, yet it generally comes more from hillside vineyards. It's similarly deep purple-hued, with a more focused, elegant, structured style. Black and blue fruits, crushed stone, liquid violets, and new leather are just some of its nuances, and it's concentrated and full-bodied, with ripe, building tannins and a great finish."

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2021 Jacks Masterpiece Cabernet Sauvignon swans out with gregarious notes of creme de cassis, blackberry pie, and plum preserves followed by hints of mocha, mint tea, and underbrush. Full-bodied, rich, and impactful, the palate delivers velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long with a peppery lift. This wine was tasted as a barrel sample."

The 2021 Jack’s Masterpiece is powerful and nuanced with effusive aromas of ripe blackberry, cassis, wet stone and a hint of barrel spice. The palate is concentrated, rich, deeply structured and full of dark berry flavor, accompanied by notes of graphite and dried sage in the background. The intense and lengthy finish is laced with fine-grained tannin that will age for decades.

  • Ripe Blackberry
  • Cassis
  • Wet Stone
  • Dried Sage

Jack’s is blended at the same time as Kathryn Hall, with different components being selected for the stylistic goal of the wine. Our Jack’s Masterpiece will typically come from many vineyard sources and appellations, but tends to be dominated by hillside fruit. The goal here is dark black fruit, power, chewy tannin, and a focused palate. The blend can be described as having blue and black fruits on the nose – blackberry, and black cherry with hints of wet stone or pencil lead. The palate is dark and brooding with dense tannin and structure.

Vintage NotesThe alluring 2021 vintage is notable for its low yields, which resulted in an extra degree of concentration in our wines. In a second year of severe drought, the vines grew quickly in the warm spring weather while our team carefully managed irrigation block by block. By summer, the vines had set a lighter than average crop, and cooler weather in August allowed time for multiple vineyard passes to finetune the fruit load and manage the canopy. After a smooth harvest season, we are excited about the beautifully balanced, flavor-packed 2021's.
